Keto Carolina Style BBQ Mustard Sauce
“Switch it up on the grill this summer with this keto, sugar free Carolina Style BBQ mustard sauce. It’s a little sweet, spicy, and tangy too!”
If you’re no stranger to my website or my Instagram, then you know my love for grilling by now. If you don’t, now you’ve officially been warned.
As more people (outside of the die hard griller like me) gear up for another summer season of barbecuing, I was looking for a few ways to switch up my sauce game, while keeping things keto and sugar free.
The popularity of keto and low carb eating over the last few years has definitely inspired several keto friendly BBQ products, but they sometimes can be hard to find in stores or seem to be fairly expensive. Also, I’m just a fan of homemade (in case you also didn’t know I sort of, kind of, life to cook too) cooking and this sauce is too easy to make too. So why not?

“School” Supplies:
- Small Pot
- Whisk
- Measuring Cups/ Spoons
“Class” Notes:
Not much to this one kids, literally dump some stuff in a pot. Stir, heat, repeat and voila. Yummy BBQ mustard sauce!
Ok, so there are maybe a few extra parts but that’s basically the short and easy version. What I do love about this sauce is that it’s made up mostly of kitchen staples and it has a really great texture. I find that having a nice sweet and spicy balance to it also balances out the tanginess of the mustard.
To sweeten the sauce, I added my Keto Simple Syrup. I like using this version of a syrup because it doesn’t recrystalize (like other low carb sweeteners), has zero after taste, and gives it a nicer, shiny, consistency. For spice I prefer a favorite BBQ rub. Many times these have some turbinado sugar in them (it’s so little and I love this so it’s worth it to me) so use what you like or stick to a little smoky paprika, cayenne and tabasco to bring the heat.
Heat everything together in a pot. Once heated through, let it chill out for a bit to mingle and marinade. Once set for a while, I like to store in a glass jar for up to a week! This sauce is great on chicken and pork!
Be sure to check out my favorite Keto Kansas City Style BBQ Sauce recipe too! It’s just as easy to make and goes great on BBQ.
