The Forsyte Spritzer- Rose Aperol Spritz

Rose Aperol Spritz

The Forsyte Spritzer- Rose Aperol Spritz:

This weeks Bon Appeteach “Book Club” libation was inspired by the 1921 series of novels called, The Forsyte Saga. The series focuses on Soames Forsyte aka “The Man of Property”.

He liked to own things, including his wife. Which obviously ended in a loveless marriage. This obviously doesn’t at all sound like a very inspiring Valentine’s Day story, so I created this cocktail instead to hopefully ease the tension.

Because, we’re not here to actually read the book, but to drink the drinks.

Read on for all the details of today’s modern day twist on the classic prohibition aperol spritz and find details below for this week’s delicious date night fondue food pairing too!

Rose Aperol Spritz

Rose Aperol Spritz:

  • 2 oz. Sparkling Rose
  • 1 oz. Aperol
  • 1 oz Grapefruit Juice
  • 1/2 oz . Simple Syrup (or keto simple syrup)
  • Ice

Shaken, Not Stirred-

This cocktail is a riff of the classic Aperol Spritz. The first time I had one in Italy, I’ll admit… I didn’t like it. Aperol is pretty bitter and I hadn’t yet discovered my love for a good craft cocktail.

This version is less bitter with the addition of a sparkling rose, the grapefruit, and the simple syrup to balance out the aperol.  A classic spritzer is built into the glass, but because I added the simple syrup and the grapefruit, I opted to shake them with the aperol before pouring in the rose to ensure a good mix was achieved.

I garnished the cocktail with a grapefruit rosette. Cut a 1/4″ wheel from the grapefruit and cut one slit all the way into the middle. Use one edge to roll up and around and secure it with a toothpick or decorative cocktail skewer and place in the glass.

Food Pairing-

This week’s food pairing was created with date night in mind (also we’re less than a week away from Valentine’s day). This cocktail pairs well with various meats and cheese and I love a good charcuterie board or some grilled brie, but I wanted to make this food pairing unique for the occasion.

I created this low carb and keto friendly cheese fondue sauce to pair with all your favorite low carb foods. I roasted up some veggies, sausages, and shrimp and paired it on one large platter with a big bowl of cheese sauce. What’s not to love my keto family?

Keto Fondue

You can easily make this your own and have a ton of fun with it for a girls night, date night, or family night!

Thanks for joining me on another week of the Bon Appeteach “Book Club”. Remember you can watch me make this cocktail live every Friday @ 5pm on Instagram!
