Lemon Rosemary Gin Rickey

Lemon Rosemary Gin Rickey

A delicious keto friendly, gin based cocktail using fresh lemon, rosemary, and my easy to make keto simple syrup for the perfect Gin Rickey!

“I hope she’ll be a fool — that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

I am so excited for this week’s Bon Appeteach “Book Club” novel! The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of my favorites and I wanted to save it till the end (or close to the end) of this summer blog series.

Now, originally I was thinking of making a mint julep (a drink mentioned twice in the book), but I already made this Prosecco Mint Julep for Romeo and Juliet back at the beginning of the series. However, I really wanted to make this book and F. Scott Fitzgerald proud of this week’s cocktail choice. I chose the Gin Rickey.

A Gin Rickey is basically a gin and soda with lime and maybe a splash of simple syrup. Easy, light, refreshing, and apparently F. Scott Fitzgerald’s favorite cocktail. I’m all about keeping things simple, however, if you hadn’t noticed I like to be a little extra with my food and drinks.

That’s why today I am elevating the classic Gin Rickey with this incredible Lemon Rosemary Gin Rickey. A beautiful take on an easy classic. Keto/ low carb options are available below, so be sure to read on for tips and tricks!

Don’t forget to also check out how I made this drink and this week’s food pairing on my Instagram stories every Friday at 5 p.m central!

Lemon Rosemary Gin Rickey

Lemon Rosemary Gin Rickey:

  • 1/2 Lemon, juiced
  • 2 oz Gin
  • Chilled Club Soda
  • Splash of Keto Simple Syrup
  • Rosemary Sprig Garnish

Not Shaken, Not Stirred…

I love when a cocktail is minimal effort, but tastes like you spent 15 minutes building a masterpiece. This Lemon Rosemary Gin Rickey is built in a Collins style glass.

I’ve been loving these and these from Crate and Barrel (take all my moneyyyyy) lately, but I also have these fancy classic one’s from Waterford Crystal. Place the ice in the glass and squeeze half a lemon over the ice. Next, measure out 2 oz. of your favorite gin. Lately, we have been really enjoyed Ford’s Gin.

It’s very affordable and even though I am not a huge fan of gin, I enjoy this one a lot. Once the gin is poured, add the cold club soda over the top. To finish the drink off, I like the addition of a my Keto Simple Syrup recipe. I find it pairs nicely with the acridness of the lemon. Honey syrup is literally made the same way as simple syrup, just swap the sugar for honey. Eating a low carb diet?  Garnish the drink with a rosemary sprig and a lemon wheel or twist!

Food Pairing:

This weeks food pairing is beautiful, savory, and great whether you eat low carb or not! The inspiration for these Cheese and Mushroom Tarts came from imagining the types of foods that might have been served at a Great Gatsby party. I think of elegant finger foods and canapes and wanted the food pairing this week to reflect just that. These are crispy, savory, and easily snackable too! Make sure to check these out because they are incredible and addictive!
