Rabbit Hole Bourbon “Fall Back” Cocktail

Rabbit Hole Bourbon cocktail

Disclaimer- This bourbon was gifted to me but this is not a sponsored post and all opinions are my own.

When the weather turns a little cooler and apple season hits, I am a total sucker for a delicious festive drink for fall. Bourbon also just seems to fit the best this time of year, and the flavors in this drink really showcase apple cider in a totally different way.

If you’re looking for a more traditional apple cider cocktail (that tastes more like an apple pie) then check out this popular Apple Cider Whiskey Smash recipe of mine. This recipe has a much more complex flavor and isn’t really a sweet drink.

I was inspired to make this drink to survive the dreaded daylight savings time period. Nothin like a delicious bourbon and apple cider cocktail to warm you up when it’s dark before 5 pm, don’t you agree?

So, grab your Cavehill bourbon from Rabbit Hole distillery and let’s get to shaking up a delicious drink!

What does Cavehill Bourbon from Rabbit Hole distillery taste like?

I have sampled a lot of different bourbons over the years. I keep several different brands on my shelves, but this was the first time I’ve had anything from Rabbit Hole.

For this recipe, I tried their Cavehill Four Grain Triple Malt Bourbon. Before recipe testing, I always enjoy sipping the main spirit by itself at room temperature and also with ice to get a nice idea of the flavors and smoothness.

I can honestly say that since creating this cocktail, I haven’t made any other crafted drinks in my house the last few weeks.

I can’t stop drinking this and here is why I love it:

  • It’s all small batch whiskey. They batch no more than fifteen barrels at a time, allowing for more quality control and good flavor.
  • The mouthfeel is smooth and goes down easy. I like the slightly toasted notes you get which come from them aging their whiskey in toasted barrels.
  • It’s a decent price point at $55 MSRP, which isn’t too crazy of a cost but definitely a bit more of an investment compared to other Kentucky straight bourbons.

The “Fall Back” Bourbon Cocktail:

Here is what you need for this cocktail recipe-

Place all the ingredients into the cocktail shaker, pour over ice, and then shake until nice and chilled. I poured mine over a large clear ice cube and into a rocks glass.

The color of this drink is absolutely stunning in my opinion. You can toss in a few apple slices or a cinnamon stick to be festive. I can never resist making my garnishes EXTRA pretty, so I always do an apple rose when I have any excuse to.

Pair this drink with a this candied bacon with bourbon, maple pecan smoked chicken thighs, or with this delicious gluten free apple tart for the holidays too. Drink responsibly and enjoy!
