Keto Cumin Burgers with Harissa Mayo:

Burgers are the easiest food to modify into a low carb and keto friendly meal. I never feel like I’m “missing out” on comfort food when I make a seriously incredible decked out homemade burger like this. I do however, get bored and enjoy being creative. So, when life (aka my summer Hen House Market CSA) gives you 2 lbs of grass fed ground beef you make a kick ass juicy grilled burger with a little extra flavor and flair. I was also inspired to make this burger based on a pairing I saw months ago in Food and Wine Magazine. This is my version! “Class” Notes:

If you’ve made one burger… well you get the point, so I will too! These burgers are strong in flavor and a bit spicy from the harissa mayo and it all balances out nicely with a fried egg. For this burger, I prefer a little thicker of a patty personally. You could easily make these thinner patties and stack em if that’s your style too. In a bowl, mix the ground beef, the cumin, a little salt and pepper, a splash of worcestershire and the optional dried or fresh minced onion. Mix well, form your patties and get your grill extra hot. Cook em to your preference (I like a burger with a lil pink still left in em).

For the fried eggs, I use my cast iron attachment for my grill. You could also throw on a cast iron pan too. Toss in a little bit of butter and fry up an egg to top each burger. Prep the lettuce buns, a few slices of tomato and combine your harissa sauce (I buy the premade harissa from Trader joes) and mix with a little mayo. Assemble, layer, and take a big ol’ bite. Keto Cumin Burgers with Harissa Mayo

Serves: 4 Cooking Time: 30 minutes


  • 1 lb. Ground Beef
  • 1 tbsp. Cumin
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tbsp. Minced Onion
  • 1 tsp Salt & Pepper (each)
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 tbsp. Butter
  • 1/4 cup Harissa
  • 1/4 cup Mayo
  • 8 Slices of Green Leaf Lettuce
  • 4 Tomato slices



Preheat your grill to high heat and set it up for direct heat.


In a mixing bowl, combine the beef, cumin, nutmeg, worcestershire sauce, minced onion, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Form 4 equal sized patties.


Cook the burgers to your preferred doneness. Remove the burgers and set them aside.


Set up a cast iron griddle attachment or a cast iron pan over the direct heat of the grill.


Add the butter and allow it to melt. Crack the eggs carefully onto the surface of the griddle or into the pan and fry till done.


In a bowl combine the harissa and the mayo together.


To eat - Place one lettuce leaf down on a plate, add the tomato slice, the burger, a few heaping tablespoons of the harissa mayo, the fried egg, and the final lettuce leaf.
