Low Carb Hot Toddy Cocktail

Low Carb Hot Toddy Cocktail

Keep the cold (and cold season) at bay this winter with this keto friendly, classic whiskey hot toddy recipe.

I first discovered the coveted Hot Toddy cocktail last year. I’m fairly certain that I spent the entire winter season sick (one horrible cold and two bouts of bronchitis), and this was one of my more enjoyable remedies (even if it was just the booze talking).

As we embark on another winter season, I am well armed with this recipe and hope to still enjoy (sans the sickness) this cocktail all season regardless! So, I hope you will join me in celebration of National Hot Toddy Day and make one too!

“Class” Notes:

How to Make a Hot Toddy Low Carb?

To start, this cocktail is already made up of several low carb ingredients. Whiskey naturally has zero carbs, typically the added carbs come from the mixers. However, that being said, those who are in a state of ketosis can be impacted by alcohol differently.

One or two drinks may not throw your body out of this metabolic state, but it could potentially stall weight loss (just keep that in mind but also… go live your life a bit too, boo #balance). To keep this low carb or keto friendly, I like to create a Homemade Keto Simple Syrup actually. Use this in place of regular sugar to help sweeten the cocktail

Putting the Hot, in the Toddy:

Making a Low Carb Hot Toddy Cocktail  is actually really easy. I like to star with a LITTLE (it’s strong so go easy) bit of fresh ginger. I find this helps make this delicious cocktail more well rounded and flavorful when sipping on, specially when you need a minor pick me up from the cold.

Ginger has several medicinal qualities such as, reducing pain and inflammation, helping to maintain good blood circulation, cold and flu prevention, and can aid in upper respiratory problems. Plus, the flavor is bright and refreshing and rounds out the whiskey very nicely.

Additionally, I sometimes like to add a cinnamon stick to top it off and to add some “spice” as well. The flavor of the cinnamon and the whiskey pair very well together too, making the hot toddy one my favorite go to winter drinks!
