Ingredients
2tspSesame Oil
12clovesGarlicpeeled and sliced thin
1Shallotminced
2tspSoy Sauce
1tbspRed Pepper Flakes coarsley ground
3tbspSesame Seeds
1cupCanola Oil or vegetable
Instructions
Slice the shallot as thin as possible and mince the garlic.
Sauté the garlic and shallot in the sesame oil on low heat until lightly golden brown, about 5-6 minutes. Add in the soy sauce.
To the pan, add the sesame seeds and red pepper flakes. Remove from the heat and set aside.
In another small pan, lightly heat the oil on medium-low heat for 5 minutes. If the oil gets too hot, it will burn the garlic and oil and turn it bitter so watch it carefully.
Cautiously pour the hot oil over the garlic chili mixture so it lightly sizzles until the mixture is fully covered in the oil. Let cool on the stove.
Transfer the garlic chili oil mixture into a jar and store in the fridge until ready to use as desired.
Notes
The heat of the chili oil can be adjusted by the type and amount of chili flakes used. For a milder oil, use fewer chili flakes or choose milder chili varieties.
