Garlic Pita Bread Recipe

A quick and easy recipe to bake your own garlic pita bread in the oven using store bought pitas. This is the perfect snack, side, or base for your favorite hummus or Mediterranean-style dishes.

Ingredients

  • 3 Pita Breads can be whole wheat or low carb if desired
  • 3 tbsp. Butter melted
  • 4 cloves Garlic minced
  • 2 tsp. Sea Salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Red Pepper Flakes optional
  • 1 tbsp. Fresh Parsley optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Remove the pita bread from the package and place three breads staggered onto the baking sheet.
  • In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add in the garlic and red pepper flakes (if using). Let the butter, garlic, and red pepper flakes simmer slightly for about 2 minutes to lightly cook the garlic. It should not brown.
  • Remove the butter mixture from the heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Use a pastry brush or spoon to coat the sides of each pita bread (about 1/2 tbsp. per side). Then season each side with sea salt.
  • Bake in the oven for about 4 minutes. Remove the pita breads and flip them over. Continue baking an additional 4 minutes. This is more to heat and slightly brown the bread but the pita bread should remain soft.
  • Remove from the oven to cool slightly and garnish each piece of garlic pita bread with fresh parsley. Slice each pita in half to make 6 servings and enjoy.

Notes

While you can just combine the melted butter, garlic, and red pepper flakes together; I highly recommend cooking it all together in a pan. This helps flavor the butter with the garlic and the spices from the pepper flakes and slightly cooks the garlic (preventing it from turning a green/blue color in the oven).
