Ingredients
111.2 ozGuinness Beer or other stout beer
1.5cupsKetchupuse a no sugar added ketchup
1/4cupBrown Sugar
1/4cupMaple Syrup
1tbsp.Apple Cider Vinegar
1tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
2tsp.Smoked Paprika
1tsp.Onion Powder
1tsp. Garlic Powder
1/2tsp. Salt
1/2 tsp.Black Pepper
Instructions
In a saucepan, add the Guinness beer and bring it to a boil. Once boiling reduce the heat slightly and allow it to simmer for 10 minutes. This reduces the amount of liquid, concentrates the flavor, and cooks off the alcohol.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and whisk in the ketchup, brown sugar, maple, syrup, vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Then mix in the spices.
Whisk until it's fully combined and allow it to simmer on low heat for an additional 10 minutes to reduce again thicken slightly. This sauce is a little thinner than traditional sauces, you can simmer longer if you prefer it thicker. It will also thicken more as it cools.
Test taste and adjust salt as needed. Remove it from the heat and allow it to cool until it reaches room temperature.
Transfer the Guinness BBQ sauce to a jar and store for 7 days in the fridge. Serve it on chicken wings, pork ribs, brisket, and any other BBQ dish you desire!
Notes
Sauce seems too acidic? Add 1/4 tsp. of baking soda and allow it to bubble and reduce some of the strength of the acidity. Whisk until the bubbles are gone and you're good to go!
